EX Weekend

FOSE is an initiative of the European Scout Foundation, individuals can demonstrate their support for the ideals and aspirations of Scouting, by contributing financially to the Movement in Europe. This exciting initiative has huge potential to provide real and visible support to Scouting in Europe in general but particularly to the development and growth of our Movement in central and eastern Europe.

Once again ISSU played a big part in the 2016 Gilwell Reunion welcoming visitors to the Drop in café decorated by many flags from all over the world.

Thanks go to all ISSU members who helped in any way at the Drop in Café or the Programme Tent

Our International Commissioner, Jack Maxton, invited the Members of ISSU to a meeting to hear of the Scout Association’s Programme Strategy from 2018 to 2023.

Since our inauguration on the 1 April 2016 we have now recruited 95 members, not only from the International Scout Active Support but those who have joined from the other existing SAS Units and many new members.

gilwell reunion

As you are all aware, I was invited by Dan Wood to assume the role of Manager, International Scout Active Support Unit. I accepted the appointment and look forward to the challenges this will bring over the coming months and years. I understand that this created a change in the way we structure the ISASU and whilst I have never believed in change for the sake of it, sometimes it is good to take a fresh look at a reasonably successful formula and see if we can bring in new ideas that will help make it even more dynamic and successful than it already was.

Kandersteg

Part of a report from Daventry Distinct on their travel to Kandersteg from Shaun Macken, their expedition leader.

It is said, 'Travelling makes you speechless and turns you into a story teller'. A quote used by a young Edinburgh Explorer as she was about to tell us of her experience of preparing and going on a trip to Cambodia. I smiled at this, thinking of some comments made by friends and family as I relate yet another tale from my various meanderings across this fascinating planet we call home.

Drop in Café

Once again we shall be running a Drop in Cafe , This will not be exclusively an International cafe this year. We shall be running the cafe and Alan Beavis is managing this part of our involvement. It will be based in the Gidney Cabin and it is proposed that we shall have an ISSU reception there at 16.30 on the Saturday evening to give us all the opportunity to network with those who are involved in International work both here and abroad.
